7 time World Champion The Queen of Pain, Rusch brings energy, positivity and inspiration to any challenge she meets. Whether she is pedaling through the night on an adventure across Italy, riding her bike up Africa’s Mt. Kilimanjaro, or teaching clinics at a #JoinTheRusch event, she approaches every pursuit inspired by her motto, “Be Good,” the salutation in her father’s letters home during the Vietnam War. Earning a living as an athlete for over three decades, Rusch continually tests her limits. She redefined the team dynamic of adventure racing, boasts the first female ascent of El Capitan in Yosemite, completed a record-setting riverboard expedition down the Grand Canyon, and has shattered the glass ceiling in any sport she tackles. Her work extends beyond the startline as the best selling author of Rusch to Glory, producer for Rebecca’s Private Idaho, motivational speaker, cycling mentor, main subject of the award winning documentary film Blood Road, and volunteer firefighter/EMT.
CHASING PASSIONATE MOMENTS - RUSCH TO GLORY | Rebecca Rusch
Hey Adventurers, in this video, I want to share some personal reflections and adventures that have shaped my journey. You know, at this point, I could easily retire and settle into a quieter life, but that's just not me.
In this excerpt from the Epilogue in 'Rusch To Glory', I talk about how I've faced some pretty intense moments, like almost drowning in the Colorado River's rapids and navigating the dark canyons of Morocco and the high peaks of the Andes. Even in the lonely, high-altitude air of the mountains outside Leadville, Colorado, I've never felt the urge to give up.
Whether my next chapter is big or small, it doesn't really matter. What's important is my constant drive to find new challenges and push myself. Every single moment is a chance to overcome fears and doubts and become stronger.
In those tough moments, we really learn who we are-as athletes, leaders, and partners. These experiences have defined me, and I'm grateful for every single one. My life and career are built on these passionate pursuits, and I'm never going to stop chasing them.
So, join me in this video as I dive into new adventures, embrace the power of nature, and strive to live by the mantra 'Be Good.'

I love 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Absolutely
Always love your videos
Thank You for watching!!
Taking better care of myself at 65 than I did when I was younger. Think age has something to do with that and realizing time has become more precious. Take care, Al
i really wish there was a way to pack those packrafts . they take to much space to carry around
24 ounces?? I don't think so.
GRAMS!! Yes that was a slip up and so many people have corrected me! Sorry about that!
I must be unlucky. I’ve been stranded twice with AXS. Light was green last night. By ride time the next day, battery was 100% dead. Maybe I have a bad battery.
Awesome review ! Looking between that and the Choss. May I ask what size Sandhur bag you have?
Hi Rebecca, just found your channel. Awesome! I’m a 53 old uk fellow who is wanting to get into bike packing but thought maybe I’m too old. After watching some of your inspirational videos I’m totally sure with the right planning I can achieve this goal. Thank you..
Thanks for watching! And Welcome!
26 ounces?
I’m 59. I started in Miami on April 29. I am 1100 miles in, solo, and headed to Seattle. What a great experience. Here are some videos. ua-cam.com/play/PLlUsEKWuEwx6cojZc9IxUFAB_KU54m9ZD.html&si=ctZy0tV5asSeeyAC
Really like these shorts. Just enough to get you out the door. Take care, Al
Thanks for posting. Looking for detailed instructions for GAIA GPS turn-by-turn for UG downloaded routes. Help!
Great video, thanks for sharing! I just turned 52 and on my birthday bike ride thought about the plan my younger self had to bike across the U.S. I concluded there are no do-overs/getting younger so I better get moving! Your ride seems like a good intro. Thanks for sharing your gear, too…that was helpful.
Great video!
But no pie shots?
We were too busy eating pie!
❤❤vous êtes séduisante et de plus une vrai athlète mes respect pour vous 🎉🎉
merci merci beaucoup!
I haven't broken a bone in 53 yrs and not about to now LoL
I'm with you...I've never broken a bone and don't plan to.
Im over fifty but i want a comfortable place to lay my head but love to watch bike packing
Wicked awesome video.... would love to bike this Trail and it's very beautiful... looks like a lot of fun
It was! Such a good adventure!
Oh well done. Good vid!
Glad you enjoyed it
Very comfortable teaching skills there Rebecca. You didn't over or underestimate the ability of the rider, but gave her some challenges she could achieve. I personally am headed to the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route in 2.5 months and will turn 63 on the trail. Always great seeing what you're up to. Watching you during the 1990's racing the EcoChallenge was a fantastic memory.
Hey what a great way to celebrate your birthday out on the trail! Amazing!!!
Another great adventure. What a cool way to cross a dam!
So glad we figured that out! Thanks for watching!
Very good! I'm sure you have much more recorded an we would love to see more of this trip. To stop moving is to slowly die. Keep it up an live happy
Movement is medicine!
Excellent, you had me at pie shop. Actually I started bikepacking after 60. It’s really never too late to earn your pie.
Honestly...the pie was OK, but for sure the rest of the trip had so many other highlights that outshone the pie!
If you ever make it to Iowa for RAGBRAI, there's pie galore on the weekly ride in every town.
Awesome ride. It's only a number. Slow and steady is the way to go. Thanks for the video and take care, Al
We went a little fast too ; )
It's not the destination, it's the journey. Not a race here.
I started doing ultra after age 50. 32km rides ended up 18months later to be 4000km race across Europe. I was always fit. Not every ride had to be a race. I am never going to win an ultra and really don’t care. I camp out most nights with very few in a hotel when I can’t stand the stink. It’s super safe for women and guys ( i am a guy ) as I often camp late and leave early don’t be afraid to wild camp. UK and Europe is very benign environments maybe some parts of the USA Canada maybe needs more care. The chance of accidentally meeting a rapist, murderer or robber is extremely low indeed. I always take a satellite tracker as my fall back SOS device and Rebecca does too. I only wonder if people as expert as Rebecca or trying to copy my efforts of 32km then 64km then 100KM and an overnighter and eventually 4000km feel they can’t do it because they are too fat, too unfit, drink too much or too old. YOUR NOT My mum is 80 yrs old and 18months ago rode across Europe on an E bike around 2000km but stayed in hotels each night. So there is a way to have better health never mind bikepacking to the North Pole.
It's all good as long as you enjoy it.
Does the battery last 25 hours of shifting or 25 hours once it’s off the charger?
25 hrs of shifting!!!!
Thanks, we tried your 20 minute rule yesterday. We didn’t really want to ride, but our 20 minute mountain bike ride turned into 2 hours. It was excellent.
I love this! Giving enough time for the Neuro chemical magic sauce to kick in really works. Thanks for sharing!🎉
Why does it look like the back wheel is not moving in the start going up?
dunno! Thats' funny camera weirdness
It has to do withe shutter speed of the video....but anyway this very interesting advice. I sometimes start out on a ride and 1 mile in im like..ugh but then about 20 minutes later im all in. Very interesting.
@@Mesagsp thanks it seemed odd the back wheel looked stuck almost.
@@Tempy90 using ND filters will help give the video that natural blur but this is common when shooting video in bright light
I have been using that 20 minute rule for decades. I use if for everything though; exercise, music practice, reading a particular book. It is, as you say, particularly great for exercise. Great way to silence the guilt monger in your head for training. 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for sharing that! Yes so many tools from sports training transfer over into other areas where we want to perform: art, work, or anything that requires focus and attention and effort.
What time is the gunshow?! Sarah Connor is alive and well! Diggin the Carhartts!
Love it!! Great advice to get out there!! Thanks!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Just bought my first gravel bike. It’s a Drali Miraggio. Steel. I LOVE it. The paint scheme is ‘rust’ so it looks old so keeps the thieves at bay. Having come from road and MTB, I liked the idea of gravel. I do have one bit of wisdom tho, a gravel bike is not a MTB with skinny tyres, it’s a road bike with fat tyres! Just in case you were thinking of where to ride!!
Your video was very helpful and explanatory. I learned that I can, indeed, use my full-suspension Santa Cruz Blur for bikepacking. I watched while I lifted weights - this gave me motivation to keep lifting on another rainy day in Topanga.
I love that I got to accompany your weight training! Thanks !
Any "dry" sack with a air out valve is not waterproof. A valve that let's air out will let water in. That's not how a roll top dry sack works. I recommend Sea to Summit or Seal Line dry sacks.
Thanks for the intel! In this situation of bikepacking where the waterproof bag is not actually submerged in water, this kind of bag with an air valve works great in being able to compress the bag and keep moisture out from rain or snow. It's plenty water proof for this situation, especially in the Arizona desert where it rarely rains. I agree that for full submersion needs, a roll-top closure is the gold standard for dry bags. Sea to Summit makes great lightweight stuff and I have a fair bit of their gear.
That Big Agnes sleeping bag is so cool!
It IS!
I'm a hot house tomato. My trips are pretty much exclusively in June and July :) I used to go out when it was cold. Then I got old.
haha!
Big Nagnus¿.
Big Agnes!
@@RebeccaRusch that name reminds me of a mule, not an outdoor product line.
@@ellerybice3787 The company is named after the nearby 12,059-foot elevation Big Agnes Mountain in the Mount Zirkel Wilderness Area.
@@RebeccaRusch not a milk cow then, ok. Thank you.
Love bikepacking. Thanks Reba for another helpful vid
So, happy it helps! Be Good!
Nice setup. That sleeping bag is the bomb. Take care, Al
battery weighs 24 oz ?????? Yikes that is 1.5 pounds per battery !!!!
ha ha! nope! my mistake in filming. 24 grams!
i am a male ,5',6 height, i saw this in shop and this is surprisingly light vs revolt and i find very usable if i usenlonger stem.im seriously considering to get one.i dont care if this is woman specific
Hey if the bike fits...wear it! It's a damn good bike...my favorite.
Great gear choices! After doing the Colorado Trail in July 2020, I realized some gear was great and some was rather terrible. I love seeing videos like this to help us avoid those gear choice mistakes and tap into your experience in the sport. Thank you Rebecca! Now I can't wait to tackle the AZT someday soon.
So glad this helped! There are so many trial and error things with bike packing, so glad it helped you fast track a little. Be Good.
That's a great bike and set up. You've got it down to a science. Thanks for the video and take care, Al
My MTB go-to!
I love how Tim's head shows up no matter what! Lol, nice work Joe!
yeah Coach Tim is EVERYWHERE! Even if his head doesn't show up, he's in our heads all the time anyway.
Well said. Bravo to him. Take care.
😂😂😂
Excellent Rebecca, you are a great Athlete 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you so much!
❤🎉
Wish you all the best! Fan from Mongolia
Ah Mongolia! I dream of riding there one day.
